The Flagstick
The proper definition of the flagstick is a movable straight indicator, with or without bunting or other material attached, centered in the hole to show its position. Many golfers tend to forget the rules and regulations for this step.
Sometimes before or during the stroke, a player may have it removed or have it held up to indicate the position of the hole. This can only be done if the player gives the authority before he plays his stroke.
There are penalties in hitting it:
Match Play- Less of hole, which indicates if your opponent or his caddie cannot, without authority of the player, attend, remove, or hold up the pole while the player is making a stroke.
Stroke Play- Two strokes and the ball shall be played as it lies, the opponent’s ball strikes the pole, the person attending it. The opponent has no penalty and the ball shall be played as it lies.
If the ball rests against the pole it is in the hole, the player or someone else who is authorized to do so can remove or move the pole. If the ball falls into the hole, the player will be deemed to have his last stroke, otherwise the ball, if moved should be placed on the end of the hole without penalty.
Another thing you can do is when purchasing one of these you can design your own, have any color you want them to be.
