Bunker

Nickelodeon Shop

GigaGolf, Inc.

Some golfers dread getting their ball out of a bunker or sand trap. The proper definition is a hazard consisting of a prepared area of ground, often a hollow, from which turf or soil has been removed or replaced with sand. It is near the green or fairway that is filled with sand. They show up in fairways and alongside fairways.

Here are some tips on getting the ball out:

  • Establish a firm footing
  • Keep the clubface open
  • Take open stance
  • Hit it at least 2 inches behind the ball
  • Have a comfortable stance
  • Place most of your weight on your front foot
  • Hold your club loosely, and stay in control
  • Keep your hands slightly behind the ball on the swing
  • Try and focus on splashing the sand under the ball this way you can make a clean contact.
